Company History
Cypress Creek Pest Control was started when Jim and Marilyn Ivey expanded the Mosquito Control operation that their son, Mark, was operating (on a part-time basis dring high school and college to fund his education at Texas A & M) into a full-service pest control company.
Initially Jim and Marilyn ran the business from their dining room table on a part-time basis. In 1972 Jim quit his full-time marketing job to devote his energy and enthusiasm to build Cpress Creek Pest Control, with initial help from his wife and children. Jim used his marketing and business skills to start a company that has since grown into one of the largest privately owned pest control companies in Texas.
Cypress Creek Pest Control was helped initially by the growth of the FM 1960 area, and the company focused on growth in the Residential Pest Control market. In 1978, after a brief career as an engineer in the power construction industry, the Ivey’s son, Mark, joined the company full time. The company experienced strong and steady growth into the mid 1980's similar to the “Houston Bust”, when the oil industry and Houston housing market fell on hard times. Cypress Creek Pest Control weathered the “Bust” by working with banks and the federal regulators of the RTC (Resolution Trust Corporation), which was foreclosing on thousands of homes all over Houston. During those times it was not unusual to inspect 10 to 20 homes that had been foreclosed upon in the same neighborhood.
As the 80’s drew to a close, the Houston economy and the business of Cypress Creek Pest Control started a new growth cycle, and the company’s commercial and mosquito business began to grow. In 1989 and 1991 Cypress Creek’s initial founders – Jim and Marilyn Ivey - passed away at the early age of 59. After their passing, son Mark and his wife, Suzanne, took over the management of the company and purchased the outstanding stock of Jim and Marilyn.
During the 1990’s, the company experienced continual growth by expanding the existing market areas to the North into Montgomery, County, West into the Katy area, and Southwest into the Memorial area. This expansion was due to the construction of the Sam Houston Tollway, which allowed easy access to these adjacent areas. Cypress Creek Pest Control also started servicing commercial accounts during this period, when it hired its first full-time salesman, Richard Walsh, who helped grow the commercial business.
The Mosquito Control and Residential sector of the business took off during the late 1990’s as Houston experienced a home building boom and the company went along. In 2003, Cypress Creek’s first employee, Office Manager Shirley Hutson, retired after 28 years of service. She was proceeded by her son, Lee, who is the General Manager.
Today, Cypress Creek has been providing quality, dependable service by protecting the health of customers for over 40 years, and is positioned to continue for another 40 years, as a 3rd generation of Ivey’s joined the company after completing their education at Texas A & M.
Cypress Creek has three long term employees – Bill Carrington, Paul Koronka, and Brenda Schields – as well as two transplants – Mark Stoker and Tommy Krolczyk – all experienced professionals who have helped Cypress Creek by providing expert advice and great service to their customers.
